OKWU Soccer Wins First Round Contest

Oklahoma Wesleyan men’s soccer took a 2-0 victory over Lincoln (IL) in the first round of the NAIA National Tournament on Thursday afternoon. Goals in the final minute of each half pushed the Eagles to the second round of the tournament.

OKWU was able to sneak in a goal of the foot of Alfeu Bertini in the 42nd minute. The Eagles would take a 1-0 lead into halftime. Alex Viddizoni would hold Lincoln off the board. The veteran goalkeeper only needed to make one save in the contests.

The Eagles had several tries in the second half as the team attempted 15 shots. The final one of the game would be netted by Luka Lukic in the 89th minute to seal the win for OKWU.  This is the sixth consecutive national tournament that the Eagles have registered at least one victory.

OKWU will play the winner of Briar Cliff (IA) and Southwest Christian (OK) at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The Eagles will be playing for a trip to the final location in Columbus County, Georgia.
