Former Bartlesville Mayor George C. Meese Jr. Has Passed Away

George C. Meese Jr. passed away Saturday, July 6, 2024 in Bartlesville.  
 
Meese served as the Mayor of Bartlesville from 1979 to 1981. During his tenure, he was actively involved in the community, holding various positions at Phillips Petroleum, serving as a deacon at First Baptist Church, and being the President of the Rotary Club. His contributions left a lasting impact on the city. 
 
 
George Clifford Meese Jr. was born on October 7, 1932 in Joplin, Missouri, United States. He is the son of George Clifford and Thenah Louise (Pauk) Meese.
 
 
George earned his Bachelor of Science, Pittsburg State University, 1953. Follwoing college, he served with U.S. Army, 1953-1955, Korea. 
 
Mr. Meese began his career with Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville from 1956-1963 as a credit trainee; then credit manager in Maplewood, New Jersey, 1963-1965; a regional credit manager, 1965-1973; the director public affairs, 1973-1976; director human resources, 1976-1983; and finally as secretary in 1983. 
 
George was the Mayor City of Bartlesville, 1979-1981. He was also a member of the American Chemical Credit Association and the American Society Corporation Sections. 
 
Meese as served in Rotary (president Bartlesville 1983-1984).
