Mustangs Looking for a Bounce Back

Chase Almy
It’s a fresh start for Oologah’s head coach Sam Noble as he looks ahead to a pivotal game this Thursday against Catoosa. After a tough 49-21 loss to Cushing on Friday, the team is looking to bounce back. Despite the defeat, Noble remained positive, noting that his team faced significant challenges, including a number of injuries and inexperienced players. "We had one returning starting offensive lineman and four new guys starting upfront. We also have a freshman quarterback who's still getting the hang of things," he explained. Noble acknowledged that while the effort was there, there’s work to be done, especially with improving their running game and controlling the clock in future district matchups.
One of the most difficult aspects of this time of year is injuries. The Mustangs have dealt with their share, and while some players are still sidelined, Noble mentioned they expect to get a few key players back this week. "A couple will still be out, but we'll get about half of them back for this week’s game against Catoosa," he said. Injuries are always a concern for any program, and this week’s shorter preparation time due to fall break only adds to the challenge. With the game set for Thursday at 7 p.m., the team has had to adjust their usual routine. Monday’s practice was essentially moved up to Sunday to maintain their schedule.
As for Catoosa, despite the fact that the team has yet to secure a win this season, Coach Noble remains cautious. "We can't go in thinking it's going to be a runaway," he said. "We’ve got to treat this game with the same seriousness as any other. We’re not that team yet where we can take things lightly." Noble emphasized the importance of maintaining focus, especially with the schedule shake-up caused by fall break. To keep his team on track, they are treating this week like any other, with a strict focus on preparation and execution. "We have to have a great week of practice and go into Thursday with the right mindset," he added.
With the game just days away, Coach Noble is hopeful that his team can turn their fortunes around and snap their two-game losing streak. The contest against Catoosa, which kicks off at 7 p.m. Thursday, is critical for the team as they look to stay competitive in district play. Noble’s message to his team is clear: stay focused, stay disciplined, and take care of business.
