The Bartlesville boys and girls basketball teams both played elimination games in the 6A playoffs on Friday in the Tulsa metro. The BHS girls survived, while the Bruin guys ended their season – both in close games in 6A Regional Consolation play.

On the girl’s side first, BHS pulled away from Muskogee to stay alive in the playoffs. Bartlesville beat the Roughers for the third time this year, 40-33.

It was not easy.

Muskogee led by one at halftime and nearly pressured Bartlesville into an upset. A switch from zone to man defense led to an energy burst for BHS. Down by five early in the third, the Lady Bruins would go on a 19-5 run to pull away.

Cassie Snead’s defensive play was a key with multiple deflections and steals. This offensive play from the sophomore guard helped extend Bartlesville’s lead.

Grace McPhail hit six straight free throws down the stretch to lead to the victory.

Bartlesville improves to 12-12 and still has hopes to get to the Area round.

On the guy’s side, Bartlesville played three of its best quarters of the year but faltered in the final eight minutes. Stillwater ended the Bruin’s season with a 47-36 win.

Bartlesville would lead by as many as six on multiple occasions. In fact, Stillwater’s first lead did not come until the 4:24 mark of the fourth quarter. Stillwater ended up outscoring BHS 20-3 in the fourth quarter to grab the 11-point win.

This buzzer-beater from Jacob Viet gave the Bruins a lead into the fourth.

The Bartlesville boys ends their season at 3-21.

The Lady Bruins will face Union at 6:00 in the Regional Consolation Finals from Owasso. Win and BHS heads to Area, lose and its season is over. Pregame at 5:40 on KWON – AM 1400, FM 93.3 and 95.1. Audio coverage also on KWONTV.com.
