Bruin Football Begins v. Newcastle

High school football starts Friday night across Northeast Oklahoma.

At Bartlesville High, the Bruins will look to begin their 2025 season at home against a stout 5A foe in Newcastle.

Bartlesville is again a team made up of mostly underclassmen. More than half of the Bruin roster is freshman and sophomores. Many of the sophomores played big-time roles on a great ending to the 2024 season.

Head coach Harry Wright is in his fourth season with the Bruins, and he says tonight should be a celebration of the work his team has put in.

The Racers beat Bartlesville 49-25 a year ago in the Oklahoma City metro. It started a run to the 5A semifinals in Newcastle’s first season in 5A.

Newcastle enters with a senior running back in TJ Bradford, who is likely one of the best in the state. Bradford has already ran for nearly 4,000 yards in his career.

The Bruins will break in second year starting quarterback Michael Kent, who is one of those sophomores.

Wright talks about keys to Bartlesville’s offense.

A 6:30 pregame with a 7:00 kick Friday night from Custer Stadium. Cloudy with a temperature in the mid-70s expected at kickoff.

It is a game we will carry for you on KWON – AM 1400, FM 93.3 and 95.1. Video coverage on KWONTV.com.
