Big news in the second day of the Major League Baseball Draft. For only the second time in the past decade, a Bartlesville High Bruin was taken in the MLB Draft.

ORU and BHS right hander Jakob Hall was selected in the eighth-round on Monday afternoon by the Minnesota Twins.

Hall was the Golden Eagles most consistent starting pitcher over the past two years, locked down the Friday night starter’s role as a sophomore in early 2023 and kept it over the course of two seasons.

Hall was selected with the 248th pick. In a statement from ORU Athletics on Monday Hall said,

"I am incredibly honored and grateful for this opportunity. My time at ORU has been a tremendous experience, and I owe a huge thanks to my coaches, teammates, and the entire ORU community for their support. I am looking forward to starting this new chapter with the Minnesota Twins and giving my all to the organization."

Hall gained nationwide notoriety after Oral Robert’s run to the 2023 College World Series.

At the time Bartlesville High head baseball coach Cody Price used Hall as an example, saying any athlete can have as much success as possible coming out of Bartlesville.

Hall originally committed to Connor’s State College before earning a later offer from ORU and switching to play for the Golden Eagles in the offseason between his junior and senior seasons.

He was outstanding as a senior at BHS in 2021, throwing 62.2 innings for the Bruins, went 5-2 with a .559 ERA. In those nearly 63 innings Hall allowed 32 hits, six walks and struck out an outrageous 110 batters. Hall missed all of an already-shortened junior campaign with a hip injury in 2020.

The No. 248 pick is slotted to be worth a signing bonus of $207,800.

The last Bruin to be drafted was James Teague, the former Arkansas Razorback was selected in the 37th round of the 2016 MLB draft by the Baltimore Orioles.
