Bartlesville High Athletics has named a new softball coach, and it’s a younger guy taking over the Lady Bruin program.

Holden Yoder, a 2021 graduate of Adair High School and former college baseball player at Northeastern Oklahoma State University, was announced as head coach over the weekend.

Yoder replaces former head coach Kyle Minton, who is staying with Bruin Athletics as an Assistant Athletic Director.

Yoder says he is glad he is stepping into a stable situation and will be able to lean on Minton in the opening weeks and months of the job.

Bartlesville softball has been one of the most successful team sports at BHS over the past five years. The Lady Bruins have qualified for each of the past five State Tournaments between slow pitch and fast pitch.

In the fall in fast pitch, each of the past two seasons Bartlesville has lost by one run, in extra innings, to the eventual state champion.

Yoder volunteered as a softball and baseball coach during the summers in his hometown of Adair. After college graduation he was an assistant coach at the high school level.

With a background in baseball, Yoder talks about his coaching experience and how he got involved in softball coaching.

We will have more on newly hired BHS softball coach Holden Yoder later this week.
