Pawhuska on its way to Championship of Yale Tourney

The Pawhuska Huskies and Lady Huskies have advanced to the championship of the Yale Tournament after each team won by ten on Thursday night.

The Pawhuska Lady Huskies took the court first against Sperry and got off to a slow start offensively, trailing 13-5 at the end of the first quarter, but came back to get a 43-33 win.

It was Pawhuska's defensive intensity that picked up out of halftime. The Lady Huskies played full court man to man press defense, which sped up the Lady Pirates and created a number of turnovers.

With that, the Lady Huskies still trailed by a point going into the fourth quarter, but Pawhuska used an 8-0 run to open the fourth and seperate themselves from Sperry. After Audi Miles gave Pawhuska a two-point lead to begin the final frame, this sequence from her sister, Brooklyn Miles extended the Lady Husky edge to seven.

In that final quarter, Pawhuska went on a 17-6 run. Brooklyn Miles led the way for Pawhuska, finishing with 24 points.

On the guy's side, Pawhuska kept the host team in Yale at arms length throughout and was able to get a 52-42 win. Yale didn't make a field goal for the first ten minutes of game play.

Any time it looked like Pawhuska might pull away, Yale made a bucket to keep themselves in it. Leading by seven midway through the fourth quarter, this basket from Tripp Walker extended the lead back into double figures.

That was Walker's lone basket of the night. Dax Godsey, Jaden Spicer and Jenson Snodgrass were all in double figures for Pawhuska.

The championship games have been postponed to Wednesday. Pawhuska will play at 6 p.m. with the boys to follow at 7:30 p.m.

Additionally, Tuesday's home game with Hominy will now be played at 1 p.m. All of those games can be heard on 99.1 FM KPGM and streaming on KPGMTV.com.
